Anti-Ageing Injectables (Botox & Fillers)

Seamus Phillips has been working with us as our Injectables Clinician for the last 6 months and we're absolutely loving having him work with us. It's so reassuring to have a Doctor of his calibre alongside our team. It's also brilliant seeing the results and the effect this has on our clients confidence. We're huge believers in natural wellness and regular facials for skin health and texture, however sometimes our clients want something to reduce the wrinkles, lines and ultimately to give them a 'fresher' look. We sat down with Seamus to talk about his thoughts on cosmetic injections.

What advice would you give to clients considering cosmetic injections?

I think that it is important to research what injections involve, and what the expected risks and benefits are. It's good to be able to have a 'no obligation' chat first with the practitioner involved, to get a clearer idea of what they would do, what to expect from the process and what results to expect. It is important to choose a practitioner who is a registered nurse or doctor, and who you feel comfortable with - if you are 'on the same wavelength' you can expect a better result!

What are the most common reasons for clients having cosmetic injections?

My clients often are concerned about facial wrinkles that have deepened over time. Commonly these are the 'number eleven' frown lines between the eyes, wrinkles on the forehead or around the eyes, and lines above and below corners of the mouth ('nasolabial' and 'marionette' lines). Another frequent reason is a wish to achieve fuller lips. I think it's useful to get to know a client's underlying reasons for wanting an injection, because then it's easier to tailor their treatment to their particular individual needs. As a rule, however, my clients are keen to achieve a natural looking improvement to their face without a lot of down time.

What results and benefits can you expect and how long will the results last?

Clients can expect a softening of static and dynamic wrinkles. in some cases, the wrinkles will disappear completely - the overall effect is a subtle 'freshening' and smoothing of the face. I aim to achieve an improvement that leads friends and family to comment on how well the client looks! Results are apparent within the first week, and tend to last between 3 and 6 months

How long does the treatment take & is there any downtime post treatment?

Once I've had a consultation with the client, and agreed on what treatment is best, the actual injection usually takes no longer than 15 minutes and is not painful. Filler injections need a little bit of pre-injection time to numb the skin with cream - we do this in the Bothy whilst the client is filling out their medical and consent forms. After treatment we advise clients to avoid heavy exertion and extremes of hot and cold for the rest of the day, and to avoid facials for a couple of weeks.

What’s your background and why are you best placed to provide the treatment?

I'm a fully qualified doctor and surgeon, and I've spent more than a decade practising facial surgery in the NHS, focussing in the final parts of my training on rhinoplasty. To extend my knowledge I spent an additional year in Sydney, Australia, before starting a permanent position in York. I've been fully trained in facial injections. I live locally to the Bothy and make myself available to follow-up clients as and when required.
