6 Essential Tips for Great Skin

For some of us, great skin is genetic but there is certainly so much we can do to help it along its way. We’ve compiled some tops tips for achieving your best skin. And I would love to hear from you on your top tips to gorgeous skin!

  • SPF. The UVA rays in sun are the biggest cause of ageing skin. It’s never too late to wear a daily SPF (we always recommend factor 50) even in Winter, and love Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50. A fabulous daily moisturiser which softens and hydrates the skin, whilst defending against the internal and external factors that can cause skin ageing.

  • Eating Pretty! The power of food can be immense, so much of what we put into our body can have a positive effect on our skin. The best foods to eat are colourful, rich in nutrients, fresh & in Seaaon. But always consume plenty of fresh greens, known to be detoxifying, healing, skin-clearing properties and critical for optimal beauty.

  • Sleep Zzzzz. Your body boosts blood flow to your skin as you sleep, making new collagen to maintain skin elasticity and prevent wrinkles. Therefore, lack of sleep disrupts this vital process. Your skin also rebalances skin hydration whilst you sleep meaning you’re more likely to glow after a longer sleep. We don’t need any more reasons to get an early night! Why not try going to bed half an hour tonight, treat yourself to some beauty sleep.

  • Supplements. Vitamins A, B, C, E & K are necessary for the maintenance and repair of vital skin tissue. But unfortunately, however much fruit and vegetables we eat, we can’t quite get the amount needed. Also, the farmed production of our food has led to the reduction of vitamins inside the food. At The Bothy we provide ‘Nutri-Advance’ supplements and can advise on which would be the best for your needs. We love the brand because they’re high-level vitamins, with proven results.

  • Omega Oils. At The Bothy we just love Omega oils! They keep your skin supple, plump, hydrated and glowing. Dry skin and bumpy backs of arms are often a sign you need to up your Omega 3. It helps skin stay hydrated and elastic. It helps protect against sun damage and boosts cell membrane repair. It can even have a dramatic effect on eczema, acne and psoriasis by reducing inflammation – what’s not to love! It’s really important that you take a ‘fish friendly’ high-strength oil to achieve the best results. We love the Eskimo range by Nutri-Advance, it’s perfect for the whole family and has a professional levels of EHA & DPA to ensure the greatest results.

  • Regular exfoliation. As we age the process of cell regeneration slows down and you can get a build up of dead skin cells. This build up can clog pores, leading to blemishes and acne. When we remove the barrier of dead skin cells we open the way for moisturising products to penetrate more deeply into the skin and we’re left with healthy shining skin. Chat with your therapist to see which type of exfoliation would suit your skin & to make sure the product you use is gentle enough for your skin.
